Gedurende dik anderhalf uur, brachten Animals & Friends een ruige en bijwijlen luide R&B-set zoals die indertijd door de originele Animals werd gespeeld – of toch in de mate van het mogelijke, want het kwartet telt nog één originele Animal, de tachtigjarige drummer John Steel, en drie Friends.

How does one not sound like a tribute act when you have exactly one original Animal in the band – viz. drummer John Steel? Well, Animals & Friends succeeded in doing so by keeping the original  1963-1966 repertoire intact whilst not trying to copy the sound of yesteryear.
